An emerging report confirms the kidnapping of 50 young men along the Sokoto-Gusau road on Saturday, June 11.
The abducted victims were mostly smartphone and accessory sellers at Bebeji Plaza, a popular phone market in Gusau.
It was also gathered that the incident transpired in the evening while the abducted victims were on the way back from Sokoto where they attended the wedding Fatiha of one of their colleagues.
An eyewitness describes the incident According to Zulkifilu Muhammad, the social director of Bebeji Plaza Traders Association, who confirmed the incident in Zamfara, Ahmad Khaleel, the victims traveling in three buses were intercepted by the kidnappers near Tureta town along the Sokoto/Zamfara States border.
Another respondent, simply known as Usman, expressed shock at the incident and urged the Zamfara state government and security agencies to take immediate action to ensure the safe rescue of the captives.
Police confirm the incident and say 20 people have been released.
Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that 20 captives have been released.
According to SP Shehu Muhammad, spokesman for the Command in Zamfara, twenty of the more than fifty abducted people have regained their freedom after being abandoned by the abductors along the road.
He stated that the Command has sent a search and rescue team to the area in the hopes of rescuing the remaining captives unharmed.
