Senator Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf (APC, Taraba Central) has advocated for the allocation of 5% of public recruitment slots for persons living with disability.

He made this known while representing Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan at a National Policy Dialogue on Entrenching Transparency in Public Service Recruitment in Nigeria organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Tuesday.

The lawmakers said Nigeria’s 35 million disability population should be accessed based on their integrity and skill and be deployed to work in all sectors including the para-military based on their area of strength.

He stated that government ministries, departments and agencies are not doing enough in recruiting those with disability into the public sector.

The lawmaker assured that the National Assembly will come up with relevant legislative interventions against institutions with discriminatory recruitment laws against people living with disability.

The dialogue organized by the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), the research and training arm of the ICPC had in attendance Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, Head of Service of the Federation; Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, chairman of ICPC; Dr Tukur Bello Igawa, Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission; Musiliu Smith, Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC) among others.
