About 5,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders from Odigbo Local Government Area have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the November 16 Ondo State governorship election.
Alhaji Yusuf Abdulateef, the spokesperson for the defectors, blamed the APC’s governance for widespread hunger, poverty, and the rising cost of petrol. “We refused APC’s offer to stay because we prioritize the masses who are suffering,” he said, adding that PDP candidate Agboola Ajayi has the experience needed to turn things around for the state.
The defectors, including the Iya Ikale group led by Mrs. Akinmoye, were welcomed by Dr. Eddy Olafeso, Chairman of the Ondo PDP Campaign Council, who assured them that PDP would live up to their expectations.
Key PDP leaders present at the event included Agboola Ajayi, Rt. Hon. Bakita Bello, Hon. Clement Faboyede, and Engr. Ademulegun.
In a separate event, APC members from Ajue also decamped to PDP, where they were welcomed by Hon. Clement Faboyede, who urged them to remain committed and reap the benefits within the party.
