Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, revealed that the nation continues to grapple with the theft of 400,000 barrels of crude oil each day, both domestically and internationally. Ribadu conveyed this information during an inspection of oil and gas facilities in Abia and Rivers states. Stressing the tangible impact of these losses on the economy, Ribadu lamented the negative consequences of oil theft and pipeline vandalism on the country’s cost of living. Despite Nigeria’s capacity to produce 2 million barrels daily, the ongoing theft and vandalism have led to a reduced output of less than 1.6 million barrels. Ribadu underscored the dire financial repercussions, calling for united efforts to combat the issue and safeguard vital infrastructures.
