Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, visited four public health facilities to greet and present gifts to the first babies born in the new year. The visited healthcare centers included Badagry General Hospital, Maternal Child Centre (MCC) in Amuwo-Odofin, Ajeromi General Hospital, and Apapa General Hospital.
Baby Echo-Harry, a male weighing 3.6kg, was the first to be delivered at Badagry General Hospital at 12:04 am. At the MCC in Amuwo-Odofin, Mrs. Salaudeen gave birth to twin boys via caesarean section, with the first child weighing 3.0kg and delivered at 12:07 am, and the second at 12:09 am, weighing 3.05 kg. At Ajeromi General Hospital, Baby Balogun, a male weighing 2.9kg, arrived first at 12:01 am, while at Apapa General Hospital, Baby Rafiu, a male weighing 2.6kg, was the first baby born at 12:38 am.
Mrs. Sanwo-Olu expressed joy and gratitude for the arrival of these babies, emphasizing that newborns symbolize hope, new beginnings, and the resilience of life. She commended the Lagos State Government’s commitment to maternal and child health, citing strengthened policies, upgraded facilities, and the reduction of morbidity and mortality rates.
Highlighting the government’s dedication to creating an environment where every child can thrive, access quality healthcare, and promoting global best practices, she commended the health family’s efforts in infrastructure upgrades, equipment provision, and human capacity development.
Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, represented by Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Ministry of Health, expressed gratitude for the annual event’s significance in promoting maternal and child health. He reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing mortality rates and highlighted the establishment of 11 modern maternal and child care centers equipped with advanced facilities and skilled healthcare professionals.
