In a recent development, the Kano State Shariah Police, commonly known as the Hisbah Board, has apprehended a heavy truck driver and two accomplices found transporting an extensive load of over 24,000 bottles of beer into the state. The board disclosed that the goods’ owner attempted to flee and even resorted to bribing personnel but was unsuccessful.

Malam Fu’ad Dorayi, the Acting Assistant Commander General of the Intelligent Crimes Dispatch unit, shared his account of the encounter, emphasizing the challenges faced in capturing the culprits. The four individuals involved included the truck driver, the owner of the goods, and two others. The owner, attempting bribery, fled during the operation but was later identified.

Dorayi urged residents to report any vehicles suspected of carrying prohibited products to the Hisbah Board, particularly along key routes like Kano/Zaria Road, Kano/Dayi Malumfashi Road, Kano/Katsina Road, Kano/Maiduguri Road, and Kano/Hadejia Road.

During an inspection at the board’s headquarters, Alhaji Abba Sa’id Sufi, the Director General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, pledged unwavering commitment to combat the smuggling of beers into the state capital through neighboring states. Sufi commended the collaborative efforts of the Hisbah Corps and other stakeholders in the ongoing fight against the illegal transportation of alcoholic beverages into Kano state.
