If the Federal Government does not accept its demands, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) threatens to shut down all polytechnics across the country on Friday.”
The threat was made by ASUP President Comrade Anderson Ezeibe while speaking to journalists at the conclusion of the Union’s 102 National Executive Council meeting in Yola, Adamawa State’s capital, where members of the Union held banners with varied inscriptions to drive home their demands.
According to him, ASUP would reconvene in a month to decide whether or not to continue its postponed industrial strike action.
Non-release of the sector’s revitalisation funding, non-release of arrears of the new minimum wage, and non-release of the evaluated nomination tools for institutions and managements, as well as program accreditation, are among the union’s requests.
Ezeibe explained that the three-month postponement of the 61-day-long strike on June 10, 2021, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the government, was mostly in response to requests from students and members of the public.
