The Nigerian Senate has directed its relevant committees to support the military in probing the alleged diversion of funds by former service chiefs to construct educational institutions in their respective villages.

The upper chamber also declared support for the Nigerian military’s efforts to stop terrorists and curb the recent scourge of suicide bombings.

Another motion which was also proposed to prevent future occurrences of diverting security funds for non-security purposes, was rejected when it was put to vote, showing a lack of support from most senators who only want the bombing and other insecurity issues stopped.

During these deliberations, the Senate identified three major hot spots in Borno State where Boko Haram fighters are currently active.
The Senators emphasised the need for the deployment of modern technology by security agencies and highlighted Lake Chad Region, Sambisa Forest, and Mandara Mountains as new hot spots of Boko Haram activities.

They further stressed the importance of deploying advanced technology and investing in the security sector, stating that equipping the military with the necessary tools, such as drones, is crucial for combating terrorism and ensuring national security.

In his remarks, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, attributed the recent suicide bombings to a failure of intelligence, stressing the need for a proactive approach to security and urged the government to address the issue promptly.
