Inter Miami superstar, Lionel Messi, has been left out of Argentina’s squad for the 2024 Olympics.
Chelsea midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, was also excluded but Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez will be heading to Paris.
37-year-old Messi, who won an Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2008, has been excused from international duty in Paris to manage his workload, and he is currently playing at the Copa America in the United States, where the Albiceleste are through to the quarterfinals.
Without Messi, Javier Mascherano has called up goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, Nicolas Otamendi, and Alvarez for the summer games as the overage picks.
Meanwhile, Chelsea has refused to permit Fernandez to travel to France, as the midfielder will join Enzo Maresca and the rest of his teammates for preseason.
