Barring any last-minute changes, President Bola Tinubu is set to send the New National Minimum Wage bill to the National Assembly next week. This follows a scheduled meeting with the leadership of Organized Labour on Thursday.

Last week, Tinubu met with labour leaders to discuss the minimum wage. The Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage had presented two figures: N62,000 from the government and private sector, and N250,000 from organized labour.

After receiving the committee’s report, Tinubu promised to harmonize the figures with stakeholders before submitting the bill. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that the bill will be transmitted after the Thursday meeting. Additionally, an amendment to the 2024 budget will be sent to address the new minimum wage and other adjustments.
