Sgt. Cynthia Maurice of the Nigerian Airforce has become the country’s first female professional golfer in the military. Her milestone was achieved after successfully passing the week-long Professional Examinations held from July 14 to July 20 at HSD Golf Club Bayelsa, sanctioned by the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN).

The exams tested playing ability, as well as written and oral skills. Pro Emmanuel Odoh, Assistant Resident Head Professional at TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, praised Maurice’s resilience, perseverance, and determination. Her journey from a 36-handicap beginner to a professional golfer in just four years showcases her dedication and hard work.

Odoh highlighted that Maurice’s achievement not only paves the way for other female golfers in the military but also serves as an inspiration for young girls to pursue careers in sports. Her success underscores the progress in promoting gender equality and diversity within the Nigerian military.

“Cynthia’s unwavering dedication and refusal to settle for amateur status have transformed her into a professional golfer,” Odoh said. “Her hard work, discipline, and courage have earned her the crown of bravery, resilience, and honor. Today, we celebrate her remarkable journey and her refusal to accept anything less than excellence. Congratulations, Pro Cynthia Maurice.”
