In a groundbreaking achievement, a robot has successfully completed a fully automated dental surgery on a human, marking a world first. Developed by the US-based company Perceptive, the technology combines artificial intelligence, three-dimensional imaging, and a robotic arm to enhance the precision and efficiency of dental procedures like fillings and crowns.

Dr. Chris Ciriello, the Chief Executive and founder of Perceptive, hailed the achievement as a significant step forward in medical technology, stating that it will revolutionize the way dental procedures are performed.

Backed by $30 million (N48 billion) in funding and support from dentist Edward Zuckerberg, father of Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, the firm claims that in the near future, crown placements could be completed in just 15 minutes—dramatically cutting down on the time patients currently spend in the dentist’s chair.

Despite this progress, the robotic device is still under development and has yet to receive clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, Perceptive remains confident that their innovation will soon transform the field of dentistry with faster and more accurate procedures.
