The Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF) has sharply criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his perceived indifference to the hardships Nigerians are facing due to his administration’s economic policies. Speaking in Enugu, ADF President and former Imo State University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, accused Tinubu of prioritizing personal luxury over the welfare of citizens, pointing to the recent purchase of a new presidential jet amidst widespread poverty.
Awuzie also condemned the South East Governors Forum for undermining efforts to create a regional security outfit in Igboland, similar to the South West’s Amotekun. He alleged that political motives, particularly those of former Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi, led to the abandonment of the initiative in favor of community policing, which has failed to address the region’s security challenges.
Awuzie called for greater political engagement in the South East, urging citizens to demand transparency and accountability from their leaders. He praised Abia State Governor Alex Otti as an example of a leader who feels responsible to his electorate, contrasting him with others who, according to Awuzie, have failed their people.
The ADF meeting, attended by notable figures including Bishop Obi Onubogu and Professor Simeon Alozieuwa, focused on strategies for improving governance and ensuring that the voices of the Igbo people are heard in the political process.
