Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the escalating political tension between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

In a statement released on Tuesday by her Chief Press Secretary, Arogbonlo Israel, the Senator emphasized the potential risks the crisis in Rivers State poses to the security of the South-South region and the nation at large. She urged President Tinubu to step in, stressing the need for the FCT Minister to focus on his duties in Abuja, while allowing Governor Fubara to govern Rivers State without interference.

The conflict, according to Akpoti-Uduaghan, has already resulted in violence and allegations of electoral malpractice, threatening both regional peace and national stability. She underscored the importance of presidential action to prevent further escalation, safeguard lives, and maintain the integrity of state institutions.

“The situation in Rivers demands urgent attention,” Akpoti-Uduaghan stated. “We cannot afford to watch as the crisis deepens, threatening the stability of the region and the progress of our democracy.”

The Senator warned that if left unchecked, the crisis could worsen, posing a significant threat to national security.
