Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to implementing comprehensive e-governance reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in Nigeria’s public service. These reforms align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and emphasize key priorities, including digital transformation and the development of robust ICT infrastructure.
At the Nigeria Govtech Conference and Awards held in Abuja on Thursday, Akume, represented by Barrister Olusegun Adekunle, highlighted the administration’s focus on eight key areas: reforming the economy, bolstering national security, improving governance, driving industrialization and digitalization, and promoting agriculture for food security. The SGF stated that the digital transformation of public institutions is essential to improving service delivery and fostering a transparent government.
“One of the primary goals of this administration is to improve public service delivery and ensure that government services are accessible, transparent, and effective,” Akume said. “To achieve this, we must continue to invest in the digital transformation of our public institutions, support the development of robust ICT infrastructure, and promote policies that encourage innovation and the use of emerging technologies in governance.”
The federal government aims to utilize digital platforms to improve social investment initiatives, skill development, entrepreneurship training, and access to financial services, empowering citizens and communities across the country.
Dasuki Arabi, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), also emphasized the critical role of digital transformation in Nigeria’s public service. He noted that e-governance reforms would enhance service delivery, increase citizen engagement, and position Nigeria as a leader in digital governance, ensuring accountability and fostering inclusive governance.
The conference, themed Digital Innovations As A Catalyst for the Renewed Hope Agenda, was organized by the BPSR and brought together government officials, tech industry experts, and stakeholders to discuss how ICT can improve public service delivery and contribute to Nigeria’s development.
The event underscored the importance of digital innovation in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda, symbolizing a vision for a more prosperous and equitable society through the integration of technology in governance.
