Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has died at the age of 83.

Nigeria News House (NNH) gathered that the top Yoruba monarch died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Alaafin Adeyemi was born Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi on October 15, 1938, in the Alowolodu Royal House of the famous Oyo town.

He became the Alaafin of Oyo on November 18, 1970, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I.

Adeyemi ruled for 52 years, making him the longest-reigning Alaafin.

He was married to twelve wives and had many children.
