French President Emmanuel Macron announced Saturday that he would urge U.S. President Donald Trump to avoid imposing new tariffs on allied nations during their meeting in Washington on Monday.

Speaking at the French Agriculture Show, Macron emphasized the need to “calm things down,” highlighting concerns over potential tariffs on EU products. “Between allies, you don’t make each other suffer with tariffs,” he said, noting the importance of agriculture to France’s export economy.

Since taking office, Trump’s tariff policies have sparked protests from allies, including Canada, Mexico, and the EU.
