Carlos Alcaraz is taking a measured approach as he aims to join an exclusive club by winning three consecutive titles at Indian Wells. The Spaniard, who expressed his desire to replicate the treble feat achieved by Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, said, “I will try not to think about it, just flow and see how it’s going to be.”
Set to compete in this elite ATP Masters 1000 event, alongside a WTA 1000 tournament starting Wednesday, Alcaraz remains focused on his game despite recent setbacks, including a quarter-final exit at the Qatar Open. Seeded second behind Alexander Zverev, he could face a challenging quarter-final test in Novak Djokovic, who holds five Indian Wells titles and leads the head-to-head 5-3 against Alcaraz.
Alcaraz, undeterred by the absence of world number one Jannik Sinner—currently serving a three-month ban—stressed that his approach remains unchanged. “There are a lot of the best players in the world playing here,” he said. “I’m just focused on my things, on myself, and I try to play good tennis.”
Other top seeds include Zverev, American Taylor Fritz, Norway’s Casper Ruud, and Russian Daniil Medvedev, who was runner-up to Alcaraz the past two years. Meanwhile, 18-year-old wild card Joao Fonseca, fresh off an upset win over Andre Rublev, will open his campaign against Britain’s Jacob Fearnley.
