NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd. (NGML) and NIPCO Gas Ltd. have inked a Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement with Ssonic Petroleum Ltd. to fuel a proposed LNG plant at Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos State. Under the agreement, the NGML-NIPCO joint venture will supply 80 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day for the next 20 years.
Olufemi Soneye, spokesperson for NNPC Ltd., said the deal underscores the company’s commitment to boosting domestic gas utilization as a driver for Nigeria’s industrial and economic growth. The move is part of broader efforts to promote natural gas as a cleaner, cheaper, and environmentally friendlier fuel—an important step in reducing global warming.
