Mohamed Salah is in the running for yet another top honour, as the Liverpool forward was named among six nominees for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award on Friday.
The 33-year-old Egyptian, pivotal in Liverpool’s Premier League triumph with 29 goals and 18 assists, is the overwhelming favourite for the award. He arrives with momentum, having already been named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association, capturing nearly 90% of the votes — the biggest win in the award’s history.
Joining Salah on the shortlist is teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes.
Rice enjoyed a standout season with Arsenal, scoring nine goals and providing ten assists across 52 appearances. Isak netted 23 goals for Newcastle, guiding the Magpies to their first League Cup win in 56 years and a return to the Champions League. Meanwhile, Fernandes offered a rare spark for United in an otherwise dismal campaign, recording eight league goals and ten assists.
Palmer, named PFA Young Player of the Year for the 2023–24 season, earned a spot despite struggles at Chelsea that left many surprised by his inclusion.
The winner will be announced at the PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on 19 August. In a year defined by both rising stars and established icons, the race for the prestigious award is set to capture the attention of football fans across the globe.
