The sudden death of a young woman, Omole Bidemi, stirred outrage in the Oke-Esa area of Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, over the weekend.
Bidemi, who was said to be on her way to a church vigil on Friday night, reportedly stopped at her boyfriend’s residence on Oke-Esa Street, where she allegedly fell ill and later died on her way to hospital.
A resident, Tosin Adeola, told Vanguard that the news shocked the community. “She usually goes to vigil every Friday and left home around 9 p.m. But less than 30 minutes after she got to Yinka’s house, we heard she had died. People were angry and demanded an explanation,” she said.
The tension drew residents to the house, but police intervention prevented escalation. Her boyfriend, identified as Yinka, was taken into custody.
Osun Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased “slumped shortly after arriving at the house, with foam coming out of her mouth.” He added that she was rushed to a hospital but died on the way.
“The body has been deposited at a hospital for autopsy to determine the cause of death,” Ojelabi said, assuring that the police would conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice.
