The Oke-Ode Community Development Association (OOCDA) has condemned the bandit attack on the town last Sunday, which left about 15 vigilantes and a village head dead, and five others kidnapped.
In a statement issued in Ilorin, the National President of the association, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Ajala-Bello, described the attack as “dastardly” and called for urgent government intervention. The statement was signed on his behalf by the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kunle Akogun.
Ajala-Bello commiserated with the families of the victims, praying for the repose of the souls of the dead, quick recovery for the wounded, and the safe return of the abducted.
He noted that the attack had heightened fear and unease in the community but urged residents to remain calm as efforts were underway to curb insecurity in the area.
“We must be more vigilant and circumspect about the movement of strangers around the community. Suspicious activities should be promptly reported to security agents,” he advised.
The OOCDA president also appealed to both the Kwara State and Federal Governments to adopt proactive measures against banditry and kidnapping in the Oke-Ode axis. He further urged security agencies to collaborate and strengthen their response to the menace.
