The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed as false a report claiming that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a meeting to pressure him into contesting for president in 2027.
His Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the report—circulated by an online platform he called “notorious for falsehood and blackmail”—as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the nation’s development.”
Olayinka, in a statement issued on Friday, reaffirmed that “as far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” stressing that the FCT Minister remains fully committed to the President’s administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Wike does not function in hiding. He does what he says and says what he does. The Minister has made his position clear—he is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Olayinka said.
He clarified that the only meeting held on August 20, 2025, involved PDP stakeholders from southern Nigeria, convened to discuss an internal party matter ahead of another meeting scheduled for Lagos on August 21.
According to him, the gathering addressed zoning concerns within the party and its outcome was publicly communicated through a statement signed by key southern PDP leaders, including state chairmen from Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers, as well as national officers and lawmakers.
Olayinka alleged that mischief-makers had taken names from that legitimate press statement to fabricate a narrative suggesting Wike’s involvement in a presidential bid plot.
“We know their intention, but unfortunately for them, the person and character of the FCT Minister are well known—he does not do anything in secret. He has said it clearly: from now till 2031, his loyalty lies with the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he stated.
He added that Wike remains focused on delivering the President’s vision for Abuja, ensuring that the Federal Capital Territory evolves into a global-standard city through sustained infrastructural development.
“To ensure the success of the President’s re-election, Wike will continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda by actualising the President’s vision for a world-class capital city,” Olayinka affirmed.
