The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that armed officers attacked residents during a government-led demolition exercise in Oworonshoki.

Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement on Sunday, described the claims as “false, misleading, and maliciously intended to incite public distrust.”

Adebisi explained that police personnel were deployed only to maintain law and order during the demolition carried out by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force.

“Our officers were present strictly to prevent lawlessness, not to intimidate or assault anyone,” she said. “At no time did any officer engage in violence, harassment, or collaborate with hoodlums as alleged.”

She added that the demolition process followed due procedures, with affected occupants given several months’ notice and provided compensation.

According to her, the command ensured officers acted professionally and with respect for human rights throughout the operation.

“All allegations in the viral report are baseless and unfounded. The public is urged to disregard them completely,” Adebisi stated.

She reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, supporting lawful government initiatives, and maintaining peace across the state under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh.

Adebisi also appealed to residents to verify information before sharing and to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies to sustain peace and order in Lagos.
