At least 15 people have been rescued after a two-storey building collapsed in the early hours of Monday at No. 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop in Oyingbo, Lagos.

Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, are continuing search and rescue operations to locate others feared trapped beneath the rubble.

The building, which had reportedly been marked as distressed, collapsed around 12:20 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, after previous warnings for occupants to vacate.

Confirming the incident, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said:

“It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-storey building which had reportedly been marked as distressed before collapsing on the occupants. So far, 15 people — seven adult males, four adult females, and four children — have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries.”

Adeseye added that the victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, and the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, for treatment.

As of 6:00 a.m., no fatalities had been confirmed, while emergency workers continued efforts to clear the debris and rescue more victims.

The collapse sparked panic in the area, as residents and sympathisers joined emergency officials in frantic rescue efforts.
