Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has defected to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi announced his defection on Wednesday, December 31, in Enugu.

The former Anambra State governor said the move was aimed at repositioning the country ahead of the 2027 general election.

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi said.

He also pledged to oppose electoral malpractice. “We will resist rigging of elections by every lawful means in 2027,” he added.
