Afrobeat musician cites remarks about his late father as breaking point

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has dismissed any prospect of reconciliation with fellow artist Wizkid, saying their dispute is permanent.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Selah Meditate podcast, Seun rejected suggestions that the two may have resolved their differences privately, insisting there was nothing left to discuss.

“I do not want to talk about that… there is nothing to say about him. It is on for life,” he said, when asked whether tensions between them had eased.

Seun, the son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, said the disagreement became deeply personal after comments he considered disrespectful to his late father.

“You do not say things about my dad and then it is fine. There is no coming back from that,” he added.

The dispute between the two musicians began earlier this year after Seun criticised Wizkid’s fanbase for drawing comparisons between the Grammy-winning singer and Fela, arguing that such parallels diminished the late icon’s legacy and influence.

The exchange later escalated on social media, with Wizkid reportedly responding in a series of Instagram posts and claiming superiority over Fela. Seun also fired back during the online spat, at one point referring to Wizkid as “short man.”

The latest remarks suggest that, despite the passage of time, tensions between the two artists remain unresolved and unlikely to ease in the near future.
