Three suspects have been displayed by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command in connection with the death of Stephanie Terungwa, a female member of the National Youths Service Corps.

When speaking with reporters on Monday, the Command’s Commissioner, CP Sunday Babaji, confirmed the situation.

On April 15, 2022, the Maitama Division of the Command got information regarding the body of a middle-aged lady lying on the road, according to Babaji.

According to Babaji, Crime Scene Investigators were quickly dispatched after receiving the information and transported the body to the hospital, where a doctor on duty verified her death.

He stated the initial attempt to profile the victim’s face failed owing to her disfigured face, which he felt was caused by exposure to a corrosive substance.l

According to the CP, a discreet inquiry revealed that the dead was Terungwa, a 26-year-old Corps member who lives with Edward Achadu at City Homes Estate, Lokogoma.

He claimed it was discovered on April 14 that she had left home with her one-year-old kid and never returned.

Babaji said: “A day later, the son was recovered at Holy Trinity Catholic Church upon a call placed through to one of the paternal relatives.

“Discrete and painstaking Investigations by Tactical and Intelligence assets of the Command attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigations Department led to the arrest of three suspects.”

He claimed the suspects were a 26-year-old woman, a 36-year-old man, and a 35-year-old man, all of whom were inhabitants of Oguta Lake in the Maitama district of the FCT.

According to Babaji, the suspects plotted and murdered the deceased in order to remove her from Edward Achadu so that Jenifer Temba, Edward’s estranged lover, could have him all to herself.

According to him, the inquiry has been stepped up in order to uncover new information that could lead to the arrest of fugitive participants in the illegal conduct.

He stated that after the investigation was completed, the individuals would be charged in court.

She claimed that the male suspects told her that they planned to kidnap the deceased and demand a ransom.

Another suspect, who claimed to be a female suspect’s colleague, told reporters that she invited him to help her scare the deceased away from her lover.

He claimed his sole contribution was opening the gate for the late Corps member when she arrived at Temba’s home.

He stated that before he left the premises, he encountered two other individuals who bound the corpse, and that he later learned of the victim’s murder.

Another male suspect claimed that the female suspect hired him to help her scare the deceased, along with his friend who is still at large.

He said he did not kill the victim, but that he held and bound her as the female suspect directed.

He claimed that the female suspect called him later that night to invite him to her home, where he found the deceased in a horrific state, soaked in acid.

The female suspect, according to him, was crying and claimed she didn’t know why she killed the decreased.

He said: “She held my leg and was begging me to help her dispose off the body after which she called someone who brought a car for her.

“The person left the car, which we later used to carry the body to where we dumped it at about 3am.”

He claimed the female suspect had paid him N100,000.

According to the reports, the command also paraded two accused kidnappers/bandits who were apprehended during a search on their hideouts in the FCT.

The command’s anti-kidnapping team, in collaboration with local hunters, raided a kidnapping camp in Zago Forest, Niger State, on April 14, 2022, via Adagba Village, Abuja, according to the CP.

According to Babaji, the squad overwhelmed the offenders and apprehended two suspected bandits, ages 18 and 20, while several more were shot and left the camp.

According to him, the squad cleared the camp and liberated Usman Isah, a 23-year-old Lapai village resident who had been held captive for 20 days.

He said: “They recovered three AK 47 riffles with breeches No. 5662, 088425-89 and NK 6172 with Seven (7) Magazines containing eighteen (18) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and One GPMG with 101 MG rounds.

“Effort is ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects and upon the conclusion of the investigation, suspects will be charged to court.”
