Tony Akpan, a school bus driver, was sentenced to life in prison by Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on Monday for sexually assaulting a five-year-old pupil.

Akpan was charged with sexual assault, a crime punishable under sections 137 and 415 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.
The defendant was confronted by five witnesses.
In his decision, Justice Soladoye stated that the prosecution had overwhelming evidence that proved the charge of sexual assault against Akpan and his accomplice, school bus assistant Itoro Wilson.
“There is overwhelming evidence before the court today,” she said. The survivor’s testimony is straightforward and truthful.

“The medical doctor’s testimony backed up what the victim said.”

“The first defendant is found guilty of all charges and sentenced to life in prison.”

“The first defendant’s name should be entered in the Lagos State Government’s Sex Offenders’ Register.”

The second defendant was also sentenced to two years in prison for assisting the convict in evading justice.

Wilson, according to Soladoye, should have spoken up and not kept the truth hidden.

The judge also urged Roy Mind Favour Filled School, UNILAG Estate, Magodo, Isheri, Lagos, to hire responsible employees.

“Parents must get good value for their money.” Miscreants should not be employed by any responsible school.

“Children are supposed to be protected and not be assaulted in any way,” she added.
