To appease his opponents in the All Progressives Congress, Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has withdrawn from the race for Kano North senatorial seat (APC).
Mr Gandue’s withdrawal clears the way for Barau Jibrin, the incumbent senator for the district and one of Mr Ganduje’s main challengers for the APC’s state leadership, to be renominated.
Zakari Sarina, the state APC scribe, confirmed the development and stated that there has been widespread agreement within the party.
“Yes there were tangible understandings between the duo and soon everybody will know this position,” he said.
Kano APC has recently seen key leaders defect to other political parties.
The governor has now given in to pressure and allowed some of his rivals, such as Mr Barau, to keep their jobs.
According to reports, the two and other high-ranking APC members met in Abuja, where the governor abandoned his plans in the interest of maintaining peace in the party.
Mr Jibrin wanted to join the defections from the APC to another party prior to the agreement between the two parties.
