Mrs Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being detained for several days.

Etteh was released on Friday night after meeting the bail conditions imposed by the investigators working on her case.

In a statement, EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said the former Speaker is to report to the agency on a regular basis to assist with further investigations.

She was arrested on May 17th for alleged suspicious and shady financial involvement with Phil Jin Projects Limited.

According to reports, the NDDC awarded a contract to Phil Jin Projects Limited for the supply of solar-powered street lights in some Akwa Ibom communities.

Despite the fact that the contract was worth N240 million, the company received N287 million.

Patricia Etteh was later paid N130 million by Phil Jin Project Ltd.

The anti-corruption agency is looking into why the ex-minister received the money despite the fact that she is not a director of the company.
