The Federal Government has appointed Anamekwe Nwabuoku to oversee the office of the federation’s accountant-general (OAGF).

Yunusa Abdullahi, spokesperson for Finance, Budget, and National Planning Minister Zainab Ahmed, announced the appointment in a statement issued on Sunday.

Nwabuoku’s appointment comes amid an investigation into allegations of N80 billion fraud involving Ahmed Idris, the federation’s suspended accountant-general.

Nwabuoku’s appointment was announced “in a letter dated 20th May, 2022 and signed by Aliyu Ahmed, Permanent Secretary (Finance), Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning,” according to the statement.

In addition, the appointment will be in effect “pending the outcome of the investigation.”
