President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr Ibrahim Goni as Conservator-General of the National Park Service for another five-year term beginning on May 10, 2022.

Barr Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, Minister of Environment, congratulated Dr Goni and wished him a fruitful tenure in office in a letter No. FMENV/ADM/199/T/188 dated 19th May, 2022 conveying presidential approval.

“Your appointment is in accordance with the provisions of Section 171 (2d) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Barr. Abdullahi added (as amended).

Dr. Goni was appointed Conservator-General of the National Park Service for the first time in April 2017.

Dr. Goni’s accomplishments during his first term in office include, among other things, the establishment of 10 new National Parks across the country, the total renovation of the Service Headquarters’ building, the renovation of existing rangers’ barracks and chalets, and the construction of new ones in the Parks.

Others include the demarcation of park boundaries and the installation of beacons to ensure the integrity of the parks’ ecosystems, as well as the opening of more jeep trails throughout the parks to improve ecological tourism. (END)
