Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.

The dissolution took effect on Tuesday, May 24, according to the state government.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor and the Senior Special Assistants have also been relieved of their duties, according to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media.

The governor thanked the Rivers State Executive Council members for “their service and contribution to the development of the state” and “wishes them the best in all their future endeavors.”

He also directed the former cabinet members to turn over their offices to the most senior officers in their respective departments.

Wike’s decision could be linked to his 2023 presidential bid, which is reportedly taking his time and attention.

Wike is one of the Peoples Democratic Party’s most traveled presidential aspirants, touring the country to meet delegates and persuade them to vote for him.
