In a shock wave in several countries abroad as there is now an outbreak of Monkeypox, a viral infection that has spread to several countries in Europe as well as to the United States, Canada and Australia.
The monkeypox may be yet another threat on the sobriety of Nigeria, our patriotism and resilience.
Linus Awute, the former Permanent Secretary to the ministry of health said in a statement “This is because Nigerians are the most mobile people in Africa, a situation whereby it is estimated that one person out of six persons in Africa is a Nigerian, being the reason behind the vigor and dedication witnessed in our Ebola containment effort in Nigeria during the pandemic.
It was rather contained by the deep patriotic devotion of the Nigerians, coupled with the spontaneity of the leadership in the bureaucracy of the Federal Ministry of Health of Nigeria in the resolve to be ahead of the disease using a collectively defined matrix for mutual accountability for achieving result for the Nigerians.”
He therefore deemed it advisable that the outbreak in Europe and America should sufficiently represent a red alert for Africa and for Nigeria in particular.
