Under the auspices of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Ijaw youths worldwide have congratulated Governor Nyosom Wike on the selection of the immediate past Accountant General of Rivers State, Siminaliayi Fubara, as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship flag bearer for the 2023 governorship election.

Siminaliayi Fubara is a Riverine Ijaw and a native of the Opobo kingdom in Rivers State’s Nkoro Local Government Area.

Fubara received 721 votes, defeating Isaac Kamalu (86), George Kelly (37), and Felix Obuah (2), the party’s immediate past chairman.

The IYC, through its National Spokesman, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, described his election as a fulfillment of ijaws’ long desire for a sense of belonging, fairness, and equity in Rivers state’s political affairs in the fourth republic, and congratulated all those involved in the struggle for a riverine Ijaw governorship.

They urged all other political parties to take a cue from Gov. Nyosom Wike and the PDP delegates and stakeholders if they want to have a positive impact in the state’s upcoming 2023 elections.

As a sign of good faith, the IYC urges Gov. Wike to forget the past and immediately release Hon. Fara Dagogo from incarceration, as well as tender an unreserved apology to the Ijaw Nation for the “Thunder Fire You” outburst on the pulpit of the almighty God.

The IYC insists that it is nonpartisan, but has sworn to protect the fundamental best interests of the Ijaw nation no matter how difficult it may be.
