Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, failed to secure the African Democratic Party’s presidential nomination (ADC).

In the 2019 elections, the former CBN deputy governor ran as the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

Kachikwu received 977 votes, Moghalu received 589 votes, and Chukwuka Monye received 339 votes.

Moghalu was defeated in the party’s presidential primaries in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday by Dumebi Kachikwu, the founder of Roots Television Nigeria.

Monye thanked Moghalu and “other credible aspirants for a spirited fight even though we didn’t make it” in his speech.

Mr Kachikwu is the younger brother of Ibe Kachikwu, the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

If elected President in 2023, Moghalu has promised to protect Nigeria.

“I will have the political will to secure our country. This means putting our security above all else: no security, no country. Political will is the willingness and ability to take tough decisions to secure Nigeria,” he had said
