The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state unequivocally that the Muhammadu Buhari Estate, which is located in Agemowo, Badagry, Lagos State, is owned by the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multipurpose Society and, by extension, the Nigeria Police Force. The Estate is occupied by Police Officers and their families who purchased the property through the Police Cooperative Scheme, not armed men as claimed in a viral video in which a mischievous alarmist claimed that the estate had been invaded and dominated by armed men in an attempt to launch an attack on Nigerians living in Lagos State.

It is unpatriotic and saddening that the video’s creator, who appeared educated and should have been aware of the dangers of disinformation, hastily and maliciously created and disseminated a piece of falsehood with the clear intent of causing unnecessary and avoidable panic. The public is advised to disregard the video because the claims are completely false and frivolous.

In light of the multi-ethnic nature of the country, the Nigeria Police Force urges the general public to conduct due diligence before churning out narratives with sentimental overtones in order to avoid causing dissatisfaction.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, has directed the Nigeria Police Force’s Force Intelligence Bureau and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, to conduct a discrete investigation into the video and, if necessary, bring the originator to justice, as the alarmist’s act is punishable under the law.
