The federal government has confirmed a swarm bird and locust invasion that is destroying farm produce in three northern states. Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara are the affected states.
Dr. Maimuna Habibu, the federation’s chief veterinary officer, said on Saturday that reported cases of locust invasion were concentrated in Zamfara and Kebbi states.
According to Dr. Habibu, the ministry has already dispatched officers to launch aerial attacks against the locusts in the affected states.
She stated that the federal government’s action was prompted by farmer complaints about crop destruction in the affected states.
