Sebastien Haller, a forward for Ajax, took a plane to Germany on Tuesday to complete a physical with Borussia Dortmund before taking Erling Haaland’s place.

Haller arrived at the airport of Dortmund, where officials picked him up and took him for a checkup.

The 28-year-old international from the Ivory Coast is allegedly close to agreeing to a four-year contract with Dortmund to take Haaland’s place after the latter joined Premier League champion Manchester City.

Haller’s transfer from Ajax is expected to cost Bundesliga runners-up Dortmund about €31 million, including bonuses, according to the German newspaper Bild.

According to magazine, Kicker, the transfer will be finalised in July so Ajax can add the income earned to their books in the new financial year.

In the Champions League previous season, Haller was in excellent form, scoring 11 goals in eight games, including four in a 5-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon in Ajax’s first group game.

He scored in both games against Dortmund as Ajax beat the German club home and away in the group stage.

The Dutch champions lost in the round of 16, but Haller continued to score goals in the Eredivisie, tallying 21 in 31 games.

Robert Lewandowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Haaland, three strikers who developed into top talents while spending time with Dortmund, will be followed by Haller.
