Benue State has seen the kidnapping of Rev. Fr. Peter Amodu, a Catholic priest.
The priest was abducted on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, around 5:00 pm along the Otukpo/Ugbokolo highway, according to information obtained by Tribune Online.
The priest was reportedly being kidnapped as he traveled to Okwungaga-Ugbokolo to celebrate Holy mass.
The priest was kidnapped, according to a verified circular published by the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and signed by Rev. Fr. Joseph Itodo.
According to the circular, Rev. Pr. Peter Amodu, a priest of the Holy Ghost Congregation serving as the parish priest of Holy Ghost Parish in Eke-Olengbeche within the Catholic Diocese of Orukpo, has been abducted.
The tragic incident took place today, July 6, 2022, at around 5:00 pm along Otukpo-Ugbokolo Road in Benue State, as he was en route to Okwungaga-Ughbokolo to celebrate the Holy Mass.
The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo’s Local Ordinary, Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, has urged all Christ’s followers there and elsewhere to fervently pray for his prompt and safe release as we step up our efforts to secure his release.
“We entrust the prompt and secure release of our brother and every person in the kidnappers’ den to the mighty intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
John Okpotu, the director of communication for the Otukpo Diocese, confirmed and verified the circular’s claim that the priest was kidnapped on Wednesday.
