On Monday in Osogbo, police confirmed that gunmen attacked the home of Mr Lasun Yusuf, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for the state’s governorship election on July 16.

The residence was attacked in the early hours of Monday, according to SP Yemisi Opalola, the police spokesperson in Osun.

She claimed that the assailants fired shots at Lasun’s building but were unable to gain entry before being chased away by security operatives assigned to the candidate.

She went on to say that the attack had been reported to the Ilobu Police Station, and that the Divisional Police Officer was on the scene assessing the situation.

The LP candidate, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, had earlier told reporters that gunmen had attacked his home around 1 a.m.

He said the attack lasted for 20 minutes and that his security details were able to repel the assailants without recording any casualty.

“At about 1 a.m., my house was attacked; the evidence is very prominent, my building is riddled with bullets.

“In the last three governorship debates we have had, I have never attacked anybody on how to govern Osun.
