Despite several commissioners contesting the results, the head of Kenya’s election body on Monday declared Deputy President William Ruto the victor of the nation’s closely contested presidential election.

Ruto received nearly 7.18 million votes, or 50.49 percent, compared to Raila Odinga’s 6.94 million votes, or 48.85 percent, according to the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Wafula Chebukati.

Ruto is elected as Kenya’s fifth president.
