Gunmen attacked the Inyi police station in Enugu State’s Oji River council area, killing at least one officer and torching the building.

The gunmen were also suspected of killing two civilians during the attack.

The gunmen allegedly stormed the community and the station yesterday morning.

In neighbouring Ebonyi State, a Chinese expatriate was killed by gunmen after disarming his police escorts at a mining site in Iboko, Izzi local government of Ebonyi State.

While carrying out their evil act, the gunmen who attacked the Inyi police station were said to be chanting, “No election, Police in Biafra land.”

A viral video of the incident circulated yesterday afternoon, showing a building used as a police station on fire and the bodies of two young men lying by the station’s perimeter fence.

Some voices heard in the background of the video identified the two victims as police officers, but another person said he could only identify one of them as a police officer assigned to the station.

A resident of the area where the police station is located confirmed the attack.

He said, “I got information from my community a few hours ago that unknown gunmen attacked the police station in my town, and that they killed one police officer. Right now I don’t have further details”.

Meanwhile, a security alert circulated on social media platforms in Enugu State’s capital warned residents of Inyi, Achi, Ufuma, Umunze, Ajari, and Arondiizogu to be cautious and security conscious in their areas due to a resurgence of gunmen activity.

Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesman for the Enugu State Police Command, had yet to respond to an inquiry about the incident.
