Abuja – The National Assembly has postponed plenary until March 21, 2023, to allow lawmakers to participate in the Governorship and Assembly elections, which have been rescheduled for March 18, 2023.
The decision was made jointly by the Senate and the House of Representatives, and plenary will now resume on March 21, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Appeal Court has postponed its decision on the Osun State Governorship Appeal filed by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Adeleke had appealed against the ruling of the Osun State Governorship Tribunal, which invalidated his election and ruled in favour of the state’s former governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
Adeleke had described the tribunal’s ruling as a “miscarriage of justice” and filed an appeal with the Akure division of the Court of Appeal on 31 grounds of appeal.
However, two of the three members of the tribunal panel determined that Oyetola had established that there was overvoting in some of the polling units.
The decision to postpone plenary at the National Assembly marks an important step for lawmakers as they seek to participate in the upcoming Governorship and Assembly elections.
Further details will be provided as they become available.
