Former US President Donald Trump is set to face criminal charges for the first time in history, over hush money paid just before the 2016 election to porn star Stormy Daniels, who claims to have had a sexual encounter with Trump.

He denies any wrongdoing.

Trump has been consulting lawyers at Trump Tower in New York City in anticipation of his arraignment.

Tight security measures have been implemented due to expected protests outside the Manhattan court on Tuesday.

The charges that Trump faces will be disclosed in full at the hearing, scheduled for around 14:15 local time (19:15 BST).

His lawyers have said that he will plead not guilty.

Despite media outlets lobbying for cameras to be allowed inside the court, some pool photographers will be allowed to take pictures for a few minutes before the arraignment begins.

Trump is expected to be released on bail and return to his Florida home, Mar-a-Lago, where he plans to deliver remarks at 20:15 local time.

His trip from Palm Beach to Manhattan on Monday was closely followed, with live trackers monitoring his plane throughout the four-hour flight.

Anticipating his arrival, Trump Tower was surrounded by media crews and tourists alike.

Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is planning to hold a pro-Trump rally near the court on Tuesday.
