Bayo Onanuga, the Chief Spokesperson to the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, has called on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), to reign in his supporters and prevent them from committing acts of violence.

In a statement posted on his verified Twitter handle on Friday, Onanuga referred to Obi’s supporters as a “verminous mob.”

This statement comes in response to a tweet by JJ. Omojuwa (@Omojuwa), who alleged that a staff member from TIME, who wrote a story titled “Bola Tinubu: Most Influential People of 2023,” was under attack by an unruly mob.

The tweet further claimed that the staff member had locked her Twitter account.

Onanuga has urged Obi to take control of his supporters and prevent them from causing harm in his name.

In his tweet, Onanuga stated, “Peter Obi’s verminous mob continues to embarrass our country because it can’t stomach the reality that he woefully lost the presidential election. Obi should please call these noxious characters to order before they commit murder in his name.”

This call for restraint comes amid concerns of rising political tension and violence in the country, and emphasizes the need for political leaders to promote peaceful and lawful means of expressing grievances.

As the political climate heats up in Nigeria, it is crucial for all parties to prioritize peaceful engagement and avoid actions that could incite violence or harm the democratic process.
