Senator Godswill Akpabio, an aspiring candidate for the 10th Senate Presidency, has expressed confidence in garnering sufficient cross-party support from the Senators-elect to secure the position.

During a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State at the State House Marina, Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom, led Senators-elect from various political parties and sought the endorsement of the Lagos State Government for his bid to become the next Senate President.

This development arises as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) grapples with pressures regarding the reconsideration of its zoning policy.

It should be noted that Senator Kashim Shettima, the Vice President-elect and a South-South governor, along with influential figures, have been working to ensure the party’s preferred choices prevail.

Last week, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) unveiled its proposed leadership lineup for the 10th National Assembly, which includes Senator Akpabio as Senate President (South-South), Jibrin Barau as Deputy Senate President (North-West), Tajudeen Abass as speaker (North-West), and Benjamin Kalu as Deputy Speaker (South-East).

Senator Akpabio assured that the Senators-elect would collaborate with Governor Sanwo-Olu and other stakeholders to ensure the success of Lagos State.

He emphasized that their objective was to endorse Senator Akpabio and Senator Jibrin for the positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively, while expressing support for the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the Senators-elect for demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and pledged his support to their cause.
