Pensioners in Edo State staged a protest on Wednesday, demanding the government’s attention over unpaid gratuities and entitlements, among other issues.

Vehicle traffic at Oba Ovonramwen Square, also known as Ring Road, in Benin City, Edo State, were disrupted by a large group of protesting retirees who occupied the street and held numerous banners.

They also shut down all nearby highways, pleading for the government to pay attention to unpaid gratuities, non-harmonization of pensions, and other welfare issues.

Non-payment of gratuity to state retirees who retired in 2012 and 2013 until now, as well as non-payment of gratuity to local government personnel from 2008 until now, are among their grievances.
