A fatal road accident occurred on the Ife-Ibadan express road in Osun state on Friday, claiming the lives of 12 people and injuring 8 others.
The accident involved two commercial buses and a truck, and occurred at Sasa bridge at Gbongan during the morning hours.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it is believed that speeding may have been a factor.
The injured victims were promptly transported to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife for necessary medical attention.
As for the deceased, their bodies were respectfully placed in the hospital morgue.
The spokesperson for the Osun Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the fatalities and added that eight others sustained injuries.
In the wake of this tragic incident, Kehinde emphasized the importance of complying with traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life on the highways.
